Nitish directs for assisting farmers in rain deficient scenario

Patna, Aug 17 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday directed the officials to provide assistance to farmers in a rain deficient scenario.
Kumar during a high-level meeting to assess the situation arising out of rain deficiency in Bihar directed the officials to provide all assistance to farmers to face the challenge. Farmers facing hardship due to rain deficient scenarios should be encouraged to opt for sowing alternative crops and seeds should be given to them free of cost, he added.
Chief Minister said that the state government was providing a diesel subsidy of Rs 75 per litre to farmers for irrigation purposes and all steps should be taken to ensure its benefits to the maximum number of suffering farmers. All attempts should also be made to provide water through canals linked with important rivers for irrigation, he added.
