New Delhi, Jun 4 (UNI) India's financial capital -- Mumbai -- on Thursday experienced heavy downpour even as Cyclone Nisarga was seen to be weakening into a well marked low pressure area by Thursday evening.
The cyclone, which hit Maharashtra's Alibaug on Wednesday with wind speeds reaching as high as 120 kmph inflicting severe damage to property and claiming two lives, has now turned into depression over Maharashtra's Vidarbha region.
Indian Meteorological Department predicted light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places over east Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh whereas light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy falls at isolated places very likely over Vidarbha and west Madhya Pradesh during next 24 hours.
Squally wind, speed reaching 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph has been prevailing over western Districts of Vidarbha and adjoining Madhya Pradesh. It is likely reduce gradually during next 12 hours, the weather bureau said.
The heatwave which was sweating people from most parts of India, is now not expected to come back before June 10. IMD predicted heavy rainfall in eastern Uttar Pradesh and parts of Rajasthan during the next 24 hours.
The weather office in its latest bulletin stated that under the influence of Western Disturbance, scattered to fairly widespread rain/thundershowers likely to continue over western Himalayan region and adjoining plains of northwest India with isolated thunderstorm accompanied with gusty wind/squall and hail during the next 48 hours.
Meanwhile, Odisha, which was recently hit by the Amphan cyclone is once again set to receive heavy rainfall from June 10 as a low pressure area is likely to develop over eastern parts of west central Bay of Bengal around June 8.
