NIRDPR urges DDG to take action against Mahakul in sexual harrasment case

Hyderabad, Sep 18 (UNI)Professor of National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (NIRDPR) E V Prakash Rao on Wednesday urged Deputy Director General, NIRDPR, Ministry of Rural Development, Rajendranagar Radkhika Rastogi, to take stern action against Asst Professor, CESD, NIRDPR Satyaranjan Mahakul, who attempted sexual harassment, stalking and molestation of an Indonesian participant during her field-cum-exposure visit from September 2 to 17 sponsored by the Ministry of External Affairs, Govt of India.
In a letter, addressed to Ms Radhika, copy of which was released to media here, Dr Rao said there were independent witnesses in the field whose voices cannot be stifled this time round by the Director General, NIRDPR, W R Reddy, IAS using his intimidating tactics as was done in the case of a Senior Lady Faculty Member of NIRDPR involving the very same culprit, Satyaranjan.
Though he was arrested and remanded in judicial custody on June 4, 2018 by the Cyberabad Police, the Director General shielded him brazenly allowing him to get away. He was arrested under the provisions of SC/ST(Prevention of Atrocities Act,2018) as well as for other heinous offences under the IPC including outraging the modesty of a woman.
