NHRC seeks updated report from Odisha, Chhatisgarh on Hirakud Dam oustees

Kendrapara, Aug 30(UNI) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought updated reports from the Chief Secretary of Odisha and Chhattisgarh on large scale displacement and subsequent failure of both the Governments in rehabilitation and resettlement of more than 26,000 families due to construction of Hirakud Dam,.
Acting on the petition and rejoinder filed by Human Rights Activist Radhakanta Tripathy the NHRC asked its Special Rapporteur B.B. Misra to complete the investigation and submit a final report to the Commission within eight weeks covering all affected areas and the ground realities.
Tripathy said more than 26,000 families have been displaced for the construction of the Hirakud
