NHRC seeks report on Noida DPS ragging incident

Lucknow, May 12 (UNI) The National Human Rights Commission( NHRC) has issued notices to Uttar Pradesh chief secretary, District Magistrate (DM) and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Gautam Budh Nagar district calling for reports within four weeks of the alleged ragging of two students of Delhi Public School (DPS) in Noida recently.
Officials said NHRC has taken suo motu cognisance of media reports, carried on the May 11, that two students of class XI, studying in DPS, Noida were beaten mercilessly by their 17 seniors for protesting against outlawed practice of ragging and reporting the matter to the school authorities. The incident happened when the boys were returning after dinner to their hostel on the May 8.
Observing that the incident raises issue of serious violation of right to life and dignity of the young students, the Commission said seeking the report from concerned officials of the state and district.
