NHRC seeks ATR on sexual harassment of a minor girl in a Rehabilitation centre

Bhubaneswar, Sep 08 (UNI) The National Human Rights Commission has sought an action taken a report from the Superintendent of Police on the sexual harassment of a minor girl in a Rehabilitation centre.

The Rights body issued the notice on August 3 last on a petition filed by Sangeeta Swain, secretary Human Rights Watch.

The Commission which took cognizance of the petition directed the Kalahandi SP to submit the Action Taken report within four weeks.

The petitioner alleged that a minor girl was sexually harassed in Prayas Rehabilitation Centre and prayed to the commission to take necessary steps to arrest the accused involved in sexually abusing the minor girl and pay a compensation of Rs10 lakh to the minor victim.

In case, the report is not received within the stipulated time, the Commission shall be constrained to invoke a coercive process under section 13 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993 for the personal appearance of the concerned authorities, the Commission said.
