NHRC issues notice to Union Health Ministry and Bihar Govt over AES deaths

New Delhi, Jun 17 (UNI) National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notice to the Chief Secretary, Government of Bihar and the Secretary, Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and sought a detailed report in the deaths of children in Bihar's Muzaffarpur due to Acute Ecephalitis Syndrome in the past few days, whose toll rose to 100 on Monday.
The commission has also sought a report about the status of implementation of National Programme for Prevention and Control of Japanese Encephalitis Virus/Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (NPPCJA) and other steps taken to deal with the painful situation.
The Commission issued the notice to the Bihar government after taking suo-moto cognizance of the media reports about rising deaths of children due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome in Muzaffarpur.
