NHPC arranges exposure trip for Arunachal denizens to J&K, Ladakh hydropower stations

Itanagar, Oct 24 (UNI) In a bid to facilitate the project-affected families (PAFs) to get practical knowledge about working of hydropower stations, the NHPC Ltd, which is building the 2000 MW Subansiri Lower Project along the Arunachal Pradesh-Assam boundary, recently conducted an exposure trip for the citizens of Dollungmukh circle of Arunachal’ Kamle district to NHPC’s power stations located in the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
“The main motto of the exposure visit was to get a first-hand information and practical knowledge about how a power station functions and what are the benefits to the local PAF's after the commissioning of the project,” said Dollungmukh’s Bomte Gram Panchayat Chairperson Yagom Hui here on Sunday.
The work on the mega dam project on the Subansiri river located at Gerukamukh was started in 2006 but halted in 2011 following protests from various quarters especially in the downstream areas amid fears of ecological damage, loss of livelihoods and displacement. Its construction had resumed more than a year ago during the COVID-19-induced lockdown.
