NGT asks Goa Govt to pay Rs 16 lakh each to families of drowned children

Panaji, Oct 14 (UNI) National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed Goa Government to pay Rs 16 lakh each to the families of four children who had drowned in a stone quarry while being on a picnic last year.
The tribunal has also directed Mines and Geology Department to recover the money from the operators of illegal stone quarries in the state.
The order issued on Tuesday but released on Wednesday said the four students succumbed to injuries due to falling in the pit left un-cared for thus the family members of the deceased are entitled for the payment of compensation of Rs 16 lakh each with interest at the rate of six per cent per annum from the date of the order.
