UK launches booster polio vaccination for children aged 1-9

London, Aug 10 (UNI) The United Kingdom is starting a booster polio vaccination campaign for children aged one to nine residing in London after finding poliovirus during a sewage inspection in the UK capital, Health Secretary Steve Barclay said on Wednesday.
On June 22, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) said that poliovirus was found during a sewage inspection in London.
“Whilst no one has been diagnosed with polio in the UK and the risk remains low, I'm accepting the advice from the JCVI [the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation] to offer children aged 1-9 in London a booster. Areas where it's been detected will be first. @NHSEnglandLDN will contact parents when it's their child's turn,” Barclay tweeted.
