Russia to be able to use new Nakhichivan Transport corridor: Azerbaijan's Aliyev

Baku, Jan 7 (Sputnik) Russia will be able to use the new transport corridor that will connect Azerbaijan with its landlocked exclave of Nakhichivan, together with Turkey, Armenia and Iran, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said Thursday.
Previously, Aliyev proposed to create a corridor connecting Nakhichivan, which is jammed between Armenia, Iran and Turkey, with the western part of Azerbaijan. Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, are said to have responded positively to the idea.
"We are currently conducting specific works to open the Nakhichivan corridor. I don't want to put the cart before the horse, but the opening of that corridor is reflected in the agreement signed on November 10. That is why the corridor will definitely be opened, creating new possibilities in the region. This route will be used by Azerbaijan as well as Turkey, Russia, Armenia and Iran. This road will have a special significance for the multilateral cooperation," Aliyev said in an online meeting on the takeaways from 2020.
