EU adds 28 representatives of Belarusian security agencies to sanctions list

Brussels, Aug 5 (UNI) The EU has included 28 representatives of the Belarusian security agencies in its sanctions list, the Council of the EU said on Monday.
"The Council Monday decided to impose restrictive measures on an additional 28 individuals for their role in the ongoing internal repression and human rights violations in Belarus," the EU body said in a statement.
The updated list now includes two deputy heads of the Main Department for Combating Organised Crime and Corruption, "various members of the judiciary, namely prosecutors and numerous judges who have issued politically motivated sentences," the heads of various correctional institutions, and "a group of long-time supporters of Lukashenka who benefitted from the regime are also targeted."
