Pompeo makes unannounced visit to Afghanistan enroute New Delhi

Kabul, Jun 25 (UNI) Ahead of peace talks between Taliban and the US aimed at finding a political settlement to end the 18-year-old war in Afghanistan, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Tuesday made a surprise visit to the war-torn nation.

Mr Pompeo held consultations with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani during an unannounced visit to Kabul on Tuesday.Talks with the Taliban and the security situation ahead of Afghan presidential polls in September figured in the discussions.

The US Secretary of State stopped over on his way to New Delhi for meetings with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other officials.
