Afghan Hindus, Sikhs meet Taliban-appointed Kabul Mayor, urge for upkeep of gurudwara

Kabul, Sep 30 (UNI) A group of Afghan Hindus and Sikhs on Thursday met Hamdullah Nomani, the Taliban-appointed Kabul Mayor and head of the Kabul municipality commission, to discuss issues related to the city and also about upkeep of the gurudwara in Kabul.
Ram Sharan Singh, an Afghan Hindu resident of Kabul, told UNI that a group of around 10 Afghan Hindus and Sikhs met the Kabul Mayor.
“We were around 10 people (Afghan Hindus and Sikhs). We urged the Kabul mayor for the upkeep of the Gurudwara Kate Parwan Singh Sabha,” Singh told UNI over phone.
“The Mayor gave us assurance that he will take up work for the upkeep of the gurudwara and said he will send some people on Saturday to look into the matter,” added Ram Sharan Singh.
Nomani also told them that they are his countrymen. “He told us that we are his countrymen, and he will work to make things better for us.”
Asked how many Afghan Hindus and Sikhs are still in Afghanistan, Singh said around 230-250 are still remaining in the country, after the Taliban took over the country in August.
He said while quite a few of the Afghan Hindu and Sikh families are in the gurudwara, some have gone back to Jalalabad, or Ghazni or Shor Bazar in Kabul.
“We have filled the online visa forms for going to India, but without commercial flights taking off it is no use,” he added.
