Top French diplomat says cooperation with Russia possible in several pressing areas

Paris, Nov 19 (UNI/Sputnik) French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian in an interview with the Le Monde newspaper outlined areas of possible cooperation with Moscow, including the Iranian nuclear program, as well as the situation in Afghanistan and the Caucasus.
"There are also moments where we can work in coordination with the Russians, or at least exchange to move forward. First of all, on Iran, where we are trying to resume nuclear negotiations. Then - on Afghanistan, where we share the stance on the need to avoid a resurgence of terrorism. Or the Caucasus - to lay the foundations of a lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Dialogue is necessary, especially in times of crisis," Le Drian said.
He also recalled the 2+2 format meeting of French and Russian Defense Ministers, Florence Parly and Sergei Shoigu on November 12 in Paris. Both Le Drian himself and his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov participated in that meeting. Such meetings are held regularly, Le Drian said.
