Israel plans to build over 1,200 new settlement units in east Jerusalem : Activists

Tel Aviv, Nov 15 (Sputnik) The Israeli Construction and Housing Ministry on Sunday issued a tender for 1,257 settlement units in the Givat HaMatos area of East Jerusalem, Peace Now (Shalom Achshav), the non-government organization that advocates for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, said.
"This morning (15/11/20), the Ministry of Housing and Israel Land Authority opened the tender (bidding process) for 1,257 housing units to be built in Givat HaMatos, by the publication of the 'Tender Booklet' … The meaning of the publication of the Tender Booklet is that now the tender is open for bids and contractors may submit their proposals to win the right to build the units in Givat Hamatos," the activist group said in a statement.
The organization described the move as a "major blow" to the prospects for peace and the possibility of the two-state solution.
