Iran railway connection can be used for cargo transit between India, Russia

Tehran, July 10 (Sputnik) The railway connection between Iran's southernmost city of Chabahar and the southeastern city of Zahedan can be used to transfer cargo from member countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States and provide transit between India and Russia, the IRNA news agency reported on Friday, citing Managing-General of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways Saeed Rasouli.
The laying of the Chabahar-Zahedan railway began earlier this week at the instruction of Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami.
According to the news agency, the railway's length will amount to 628 kilometers (390 miles). Rasouli noted that the railway will be of great importance both nationally and regionally as a part of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC).
