Tokyo stocks close lower on concerns over virus resurgence

Tokyo, July 30 (Xinhua) Tokyo stocks closed lower Thursday as early gains made on the back of the US Federal Reserve pledging to maintain low interest rates amid the pandemic were reversed as concerns grew about rising cases of coronavirus infections in Japan.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 57.88 points, or 0.26 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 22,339.23.
