Japan reduces train services as Covid causes staff shortage

Tokyo, July 25 (UNI/Sputnik) The railroad operator in the southwestern Japanese region of Kyushu is reducing the number of express trains as the growing number of COVID-19 cases among the staff have caused workforce shortage, media reported on Monday.
The JR Kyushu company announced the cancellation of 120 express trains on two routes linking the cities of Hakata and Oita from July 27 to August 5, Japanese broadcaster NHK reported.
The reason for the decision was the shortage of personnel, primarily drivers and conductors. Currently, 38 people are unable to work as they are either sick or quarantined, the report said.
