Ammunition depot explosion in Iraq's south kills 7

Beirut, Aug 8 (UNI) An ammunition depot of the Iran-backed Shiite militia al-Hashd al-Shaabi, also known as the Popular Mobilization Forces (PME), exploded in the province of Najaf in southern Iraq, killing seven people, Al Arabiya broadcaster reported on Monday, citing a security source.
According to preliminary data, ammunition detonated due to high temperature and improper storage, the source was cited as saying.
PME was established in 2014 to fight against the Islamic State terrorist group (banned in Russia), which captured the Iraqi city of Mosul. Support for most of the militia units is provided by Iran.
