Kabul Wants Ceasefire to Top Agenda of Intra-Afghan Talks - Foreign Minister

Washington, Aug 5 (Sputnik) Kabul wants establishing a humanitarian ceasefire to be at the top of the agenda during possible talks with the Taliban, Acting Afghan Foreign Minister Mohammed Haneef Atmar said on Wednesday.
“In terms of what we want to discuss with the Taliban the number one issue will be a humanitarian ceasefire. It’s key now because our people are being killed by both the violence and the COVID-19 pandemic,” Atmar said at a Hoover Institution event. “If we reach an agreement on ceasefire, the government of Afghanistan and our international partners will be able to deliver the critical life saving and life sustaining services to the population during this pandemic. So, it’s their responsibility to negotiate a ceasefire with us.”
Another point the Afghan government would talk about with the Taliban about is the end state of what they want to achieve in Afghanistan together with the Taliban.
