Finland, Estonia plan to create common missile defense system

Helsinki, August 12 (UNI) Tallinn and Helsinki are negotiating the creation of a common missile defense system, Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur said on Friday.
“We need to combine our coastal defenses. The range of the Estonian and Finnish missiles exceeds the width of the Gulf of Finland. This means that we combine our missile defense system and share all information with each other,” Pevkur told the Finnish newspaper Iltalehti, noting that this prospect will become possible only after the full entry of Finland into NATO.
The Estonian minister believes that the integration of the Finnish and Estonian missile defense systems makes it possible to "close" the Gulf of Finland for Russian warships, according to the newspaper.
