Teheran, Jul 29 (UNI) Iran has issued an arrest warrant against US President Donald Trump accusing him of being involved in the murder of Iran’s top military commander Gen Qassem Soleimani in January.
Gen Soleimani, Revolutionary Guards Commander and head of the external operations Quds Force, was killed in a US drone attack on January 3 in Baghdad immediately after he landed at Baghdad airport.
The arrest warrant for charges of “murder and terrorism” was announced on Monday and Iran has requested Interpol to issue a Red Corner Notice’ against Donald Trump, Iranian officials said.
Interpol, however, declined the request and said it could not intervene in any case of political, military, religious or racial character."
'Interpol would not consider requests of this nature,’’the organization added.
US special representative for Iran, Brian Hook, dismissed the Iranian warrant as a 'propaganda stunt that no one takes seriously.'
He described it as of a political nature which had nothing to do with national security, international peace or promoting stability.
The US while announcing his death, had said in a statement the US military had taken ‘’decisive defensive action’’ to protect US personnel abroad and the strike was aimed at deterring future Iranian attack plans.
