Lebanese PM resigns after demonstrations rock Beirut

Beirut, Aug 11 (UNI) Lebanon's Prime Minister Hassan Diab resigned following public outrage and widespread anti-government demonstrations in the wake of the August 4 massive blast that shook capital Beirut and killed nearly 160 people and wounded thousands others.
Prime Minister Diab announced his government’s resignation on Monday while demonstrations rocked Beirut with protestors demanding removal a ‘’corrupt’’ government.
His four Ministers had resigned earlier.
‘’I announce the resignation of the government," the Prime Minister said in a televised speech.
Lebanese people are demanding action against officials who did not take any action even after it had been pointed out to them that massive amounts of volatile ammonium nitrate was lying stockpiled for years in the port where the explosion occurred. Thousands of demonstrators descended on streets of Beirut after the explosions and tried to storm government offices and buildings.
