Nepali firms laid off nearly quarter of employees during lockdown

Kathmandu, Aug 6 (UNI) A survey conducted by Nepal's central bank claimed that the four-month-long lockdown led to the shutdown of over 60 per cent of the country's industries, resulting in almost a quarter of the Nepali workforce being laid off.
The Nepali government enforced the nationwide lockdown on March 24, closing most of the industries, business activities and halting ground and air travel. The restrictions were lifted on July 21.
The report, titled "The Effect of COVID-19 in Nepal's Economy," was released on Wednesday. It includes the survey of 674 entrepreneurs involved in 13 different industrial groups in 52 out of Nepal's total 77 districts.
