Doval meets Russian NSA, both sides to  intensify counter terrorism ties

Moscow, Aug 21 (UNI) National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, who is here at the invitation of Secretary of the Russian National Security Council Nikolai Patrushev, on Tuesday held talks on bilateral issues including on preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Vladivostok for the Eastern Economic Forum next month.
"Both sides reaffirmed their intention to intensify counter terrorism cooperation," said a statement from Indian Ministry of External Affairs.
"The longstanding position of both sides on importance of their bilateral consultations and mutual support for principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity and non-interference of third parties was reiterated," the statement said.
In a tweet, MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar said: "NSA Ajit Doval met Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary, Russian National Security Council. Discussions focused on PM’s visit to Vladivostok, bilateral
cooperation betwn the two National Security Councils, regional and international issues".
The MEA statement further said - "The discussions based on mutual trust and confidence showed identical or close positions on various issues characteristic of the Special and Privileged Strategic partnership between the two countries".
"Both sides reaffirmed their intention to intensify counter terrorism cooperation. The longstanding position of both sides on importance of their bilateral consultations and mutual support for principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity and non-interference of third parties was reiterated".
Mr Doval also met Director of ROSCOSMOS Dmitry Rogozin to review ongoing cooperation in the space field and the Gaganyaan programme.
The Roscosmos State Corporation for Space Activities, commonly known as Roscosmos, in Russia is responsible for the wide range and types of space flights and cosmonautics programs for the Russian Federation.
The statement further said Mr Rogozin applauded the progress of the Chandrayaan programme and conveyed Russia’s support and best wishes for the Mission’s success.
Both sides also discussed long term aspects of space cooperation, which is expected to figure prominently in the Bilateral summit in Vladivostok, the statement said.
