Looking forward to working with you to strengthen ties, says new Norwegian PM to Modi

Oslo/New Delhi, Oct 17 (UNI) New Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his congratulations and said he looks forward to working with him to strengthen Norway-India cooperation in the UN Security Council, on a rules-based world order, on climate challenge and the Nordic-India Summit.
Stoere, in a tweet, replied to PM Modi’s congratulations: "Thank you PM @narendramodi. I look forward to working with you to strengthen Norway-India cooperation in the UNSC, on a rules-based world order, oceans, climate, environment, energy and Nordic-India Summit.”
On Saturday, PM Modi had congratulated Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere on taking over the reins of the government and said he looks forward to working closely with him in strengthening India-Norway relations.
In a tweet, Prime Minister Modi said: “Congratulations @jonasgahrstore on assuming the office of Prime Minister of Norway. I look forward to working closely with you in further strengthening India-Norway relations."
Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere is leader of Norway’s centre-left Labor Party.
Earlier this week, Norway's Erna Solberg stepped down as prime minister after two terms, as the left-leaning bloc won last month’s parliament election in Norway.
The reference to cooperation in the UNSC is because both India and Norway are non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for 2021-22. India held the rotating presidency in August this year and will again hold it in December 2022. Norway will be holding the rotating presidency in January 2022.
Prime Minister Modi has been invited to attend the India-Nordic Summit to be held in 2022 in Copenhagen. The invite was extended by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen during her bilateral meeting with PM Modi on October 9, which he has accepted.
Earlier, the second India-Nordic summit that was to take place in June in Denmark was postponed due to the severe Covid outbreak. The summit includes all five Nordic countries -- Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland.
The first India-Nordic summit was held in April 2018 in Sweden.
