Bishkek/New Delhi, Oct 11 (UNI) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar gifted Indian epics and classics to the Manas-Mahatma Gandhi library in the Kyrgyzstan capital, and also released a dictionary of common words in Hindi and Kyrgyz languages along with Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Ruslan Kazakbaev.
In tweets, EAM Jaishankar, who is paying a two-day visit to the Central Asian country, said on Monday: “Very pleased to gift Indian epics and classics to the Manas-Mahatma Gandhi library in Bishkek.
“Applaud the leadership of Prof. Turgunaliev in strengthening our cultural cooperation.”
“Released a dictionary of common words in Hindi and Kyrgyz languages along with FM Kazakbaev.
“Thank @iccr_hq and Kyrgyz State Language Commission for this initiative.”
The Hindi-Kyrgyz Dictionary of Words of Common Origin has been jointly worked on by the Indian Council of Cultural Relations and the Kyrgyz State Language Commission.
The Mahatma Gandhi–Manas Library was officially dedicated on May 12, 2021, in a ceremony at Manas–Chingiz Aitmatov National Academy in Bishkek.
Prof. Topchubek Turgunaliev is President of the Academy.
The dedication was to commemorate India@75 and India-Kyrgyz Year of Cultural Exchanges – 2021, announced during Prime Minister Modi’s Kyrgyz visit in June 2019.
A contribution of books on India, including great epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata, in Sanskrit and Russian, was made to the Gandhi–Manas Library on the occasion in May.
Digital connects to India’s National Digital Library, National Archives and Parliament Library of India were operationalised on the occasion to benefit Kyrgyz researchers on India.
