Japan, US to hold joint military drills

Tokyo, Feb 2 (UNI) The Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force (GSDF) and the US Marine Corps will hold a joint military exercise to bolster readiness for defense on remote islands from February 25–March 17, the NHK broadcaster reported on Friday, citing the forces.
The drills, code-named Iron Fist and held regularly since 2006, will take place in Japan's southwestern Okinawa and Kagoshima prefectures, among other locations.
Around 2,100 personnel from the GSDF Amphibious Rapid Deployment Brigade and the US 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit will participate in landing exercises and live firing activities.
