Australia probes retail giants for using customer 'faceprints'

Canberra, July 13 (UNI) The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner on Wednesday said that an investigation against retail giants Bunnings and Kmart has been launched for using facial recognition technology in stores without the knowledge of customers.
According to ABC News, the investigation followed a report from consumer advocacy group CHOICE about the retailers' use of facial recognition technology.
The consumer advocacy group Choice had investigated 25 of "Australia's most-trusted retailers", and found Kmart, Bunnings and Good Guys were "capturing the biometric data of their customers".
