Landslide in Vietnam kills 11 army personnel, more casualties feared

Hanoi, Oct 18 (UNI) Rescue workers were fighting against time in Vietnam to find 11 soldiers of the country's 4th Military Region whose barracks were buried by a huge landslide on Sunday, even as the country battles its worst floods in years.
So far the rescuers have pulled out 11 dead bodies from the remains of the barracks in the central province of Quang Tri, BBC reported.
The landslide which happened in the early hours of Sunday morning sounded like "exploding bombs" an official said.
Vietnam has been hit by heavy rainfall in the past week, causing floods and landslides which have killed at least 70 people around the country.
Authorities have warned that floodwaters could rise further in the coming days, raising fears of more flooding and landslides.
This is the second major loss of life in landslide in the country after 13 members of a rescue team - many of them soldiers - were found dead trying to save workers from a hydropower plant that had been hit by a landslide in the neighbouring province of Thua Thien Hue.
