Maha issues notices to 14,000 men for taking money from women-only scheme

Mumbai, Aug 5 (UNI) The Maharashtra government has issued notices to over 14,000 men who falsely availed of financial benefits under the ‘Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahin Yojana’, a welfare scheme solely meant for women. Officials have said these beneficiaries have been asked to return the funds within a month otherwise criminal action will be initiated against them.
Despite being a women-centric scheme, shocking revelations show that 14,000 male applicants managed to claim the benefits, drawing criticism from the Opposition. These ineligible beneficiaries steal over Rs 21.44 crore from the scheme, according to the data. The government has now started recovering the misappropriated funds and has sent formal notices to the individuals involved.
The IT department of the state is conducting a reverification of all the applications following reports of widespread irregularities.
