Osmanabad, Oct 19 (UNI) NCP chief Sharad Pawar remarked here on Monday that if Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has any self-respect, he should decide whether to stay in office or not.
He made the statement over the letter affair which ensued between the Governor and CM Uddhav Thackeray. Recently, Guv Koshyari wrote to the CM, asking to reopen the temples in the state, which continue to remain shut owing to the COVID-19 crisis.
However, the language of the letter was seen by many political parties as not befitting to the gubernatorial stature. For instance, the letter asked the CM, "Whether he has suddenly turned secular, the word he hated the most."
As this content came out in the public domain, parties like the NCP and the CPI (M) condemned the Governor's choice of words and the latter party also demanded Koshyari's removal from the post.
Stating that the Governor is one of the most important and respected posts in the country, Mr Pawar cited the Union Home Minister Amit Shah's reaction over the matter as he also said, "some should have been avoided by Koshyari".
"Now, after the Union Home Minister has noted the letter, the Governor should decide whether to remain in office or not," he reiterated.
