Not Rs 50k, provide Rs 4L Covid ex-gratia as promised earlier: Congress to Centre

Pune, Nov 24 (UNI) Leader of Congress Legislature Party Balasaheb Thorat on Wednesday asserted that the Rs 50,000 Covid ex-gratia offered by the Centre is not only inadequate, but also contravenes the compensation provision under the National Disaster Management Act.
In the same regards, he penned a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and appealed to ask the Centre to raise the ex-gratia amount to Rs four lakh, as decided earlier.
"On September 11, 2021, the Central Government submitted a detailed affidavit in the Supreme Court, mentioning that it will pay only Rs 50,000 as ex-gratia to the families of those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic through the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). Under the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the compensation amount is shared by the Centre and State in 75-25 per cent respectively," the letter read.
