Govt disallowed adjournment motion fearing irregularities coming to fore: Kamat

Panaji, Jul 28 (UNI) Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat has alleged that the behaviour and the tactics adopted by the BJP government during the one day session indicated that for them “Wealth is Health”.
In a statement, he said," The government did not allow the Adjournment Motion to come for discussion fearing irregularities and mismanagement in handling of Covid crises will come to the fore. The government was also afraid of actual facts and figures coming out of the financial position of the State. The BJP has pushed the economy and the State to bankruptcy and hence, removed all the opposition MLA out of the House and PASSED the Budget, Supplementary demand and 11 Bills without any discussion."
Mr Kamat said the Governor should not give assent to the Business conducted in the Goa Legislative Assembly on 27th July 2020.
"We have urged the Governor in the Memorandum submitted to him to convene full- fledged Assembly Session and allow all the Members to discuss and debate on all the issues before passing the same. The government today murdered the Democracy by moving a Motion suspending all the Rules of the Business of the House and rejecting our Adjournment Motion which was on a very important subject of Covid Pandemic," he said.
The spread of Corona Virus and rising cases of Covid19 patients and deaths in the State of Goa was a matter of serious concern, he said, adding there was fear and anxiety in the minds of the people due to the failure in handling and management of the Covid Pandemic by Government of Goa.
He said the State of Goa had suffered due to closure of business activities during the lockdowns announced by the Government of India and the State Government.
The lockdowns had also resulted in disrupting all the business activities in the State, which has affected every household budget, he said, adding the Government had not given any financial assistance to the marginalized sector and was yet to announce Economic Revival Plan for the State of Goa.
He alleged that thevgovernment had failed to release a White Paper on the Covid Pandemic and Financial Status of the State.
"There is a need to pay Urgent Attention to these Crises. There are issues which will cause severe destruction to the Environment and needs to be addressed on topmost priority," he said.
