Panaji, Sep 27 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Goa President Sadanand Shet Tanavade has said that the party would contest next assembly elections to be held in 2022 under the leadership of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
Speaking to reporters after attending State Executive Meeting of the party at Mapusa, around 15 km away from the city, he also expressed confidence that the party would secure absolute majority post the assembly elections.
"An election is the objective of any political party. With the support of the people and hardwork of the party workers, BJP in 2022 under the leadership of Pramod Sawant will win with an absolute majority. I can say this confidently. Those who claim that the BJP will be reduced to single digits in the coming election. Those who criticise the government without stepping out of their homes, will be reduced to single digits come elections," he said.
Praising Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Mr Tanavade said the Chief Minister had put in exhaustive efforts even during the period when he was in home quarantine for 17 days when he tested positive for COVID 19 this month earlier this month.
"The Chief Minister worked tirelessly despite being Covid-19 positive. He was in home isolation for 17 days, but he continued to work," the BJP leader said.
Dr Sawant took over as Chief Minister after demise of the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in 2019. Prior to that he was Speaker of the State Assembly.
The Executive Meeting also passed a resoultion congratulating the Dr Sawant-led government for playing pro-active role in containing COVID 19 pandemic.
"This state executive congratulates Dr. Pramod Sawant-led government for being proactive and committed to the welfare and well-being of Goans. This state executive also congratulates all the frontline Covid-warriors, doctors, nurses, para-medical staff, police and other administrative workers for their relentless efforts in fighting the global pandemic," the resolution passed by the members said.
