Aurangabad, May 16 (UNI) The Marathwada region of Maharashtra registered 3,509 new Covid-19 cases and 121 fatalities during the past 24 hours, informed health authorities on Sunday.
Details from all the district headquarters collected by UNI show that out of the eight districts of the region, Latur district was worst-affected as it recorded 540 new cases and 35 deaths, followed by Beed which had 1150 cases and 34 deaths, Aurangabad had 596 cases and 26 deaths, Parbhani had 563 new cases and 15 deaths, Jalna recorded 304 cases and 13 deaths, Osmanabad had 607 cases and 12 deaths, Nanded registered 273 cases and nine deaths and Hingoli registered 78 cases and three deaths.
Meanwhile, during the past 24 hours, 34,848 fresh cases of COVID-19 were recorded across the state, taking the total number of infections to 53,44,063.
The state also registered 960 more deaths, taking the death toll to 80,512.
Meanwhile, a record 59,073 patients recovered in the state, taking the total number of recoveries to 47,67,053.
The state's recovery rate currently stands at 89.2 per cent and the fatality rate is 1.51 per cent.
At present, there are 4,94,032 active cases across the state undergoing treatment at different COVID-19 centres and hospitals, added the health authorities.
In view of the rising number of cases, strict restrictions has been extended up to May 31.
