Mumbai, Oct 15 (UNI) Congress MLA from Igatpuri, Hiraman Bhika Khoskar, has joined the Ajit Pawar Led-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), ahead of the Assembly elections in Maharashtra.
Khoskar and his supporters officially joined the NCP at Ajit Pawar's residence in Mumbai on Monday.
According to the party official press statement issued late last night, Khoskar joined the NCP with dozens of his supporters, including former Zila Parishad member Sampatnana Sakale, in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Maharashtra NCP President Sunil Tatkare in Pune last evening.
Inducting him into the party, Pawar welcomed the MLA, saying Khoskar's joining the NCP family will strengthen the party in Nashik and adjoining areas. Khoskar enjoys much clout in the Nashik region, particularly in the tribal community.
In the run-up to the state assembly poll, this is the second big joining in the NCP in the last few days.
Just a few days back, veteran actor Sayaji Shinde joined the party in Mumbai, the statement added.
In the last state assembly council polls, Khoskar cast his vote for the Mahayuti candidate by defying the whip of the Congress party.
