Maha CM urges central govt to purchase 2 lakh metric tonne onion

Mumbai, Sep 15 (UNI) Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde has written to the Union Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Supplies Minister Piyush Goyal for purchasing another 2 lakh metric tonnes of onion through the Price Stabilization Fund through NAFED.
The CM in a letter to Goyal stated that, the Onion crop is a major crop of Maharashtra. Due to fall in onion prices, farmers are facing financial difficulties.
Onion is the major crop of farmers in Maharashtra and 35 to 40 percent of the total production of the country is produced in Maharashtra only. Onion production to reach 136.70 lakh MT in 2021-22 due to good rains which was 20 lakh MT more than the previous year.
