Mumbai, Nov 7 (UNI) Ahead of polling, the Election Commission has ordered around 2,20,520 ink bottles in the state for applying ink on the left index finger of the voters for the assembly elections, announced by the chief electoral office through a media statement on Thursday.
The state has 1,00,427 polling booths in 288 assembly constituencies, with 2,00,854 ink bottles, (2 ink bottles) per polling station.
In addition to 2,00,854 ink bottles and some more—a total of 2,20,520 ink bottles—the materials required for voting are going to be delivered to the polling stations in the next few days through the election system.
9,70,25,119 voters will exercise their right to vote in 288 constituencies of the state for this year's assembly elections.
A demand for about 2,20,520 ink bottles has been registered through the Election Commission for applying ink to the left index finger of these voters. This ink is specially made to be applied to the voter's index finger and not removed for a few days. All these ink bottles are being handed over to the collector for further distribution.
The inked index finger of the left hand is proudly displayed by commoners, public representatives, or celebrities as a sign of exercising the right to vote. This black line, which strengthens democracy, has become an integral part of elections. Voters are admitted to the polling station after identification.
An indelible ink is applied to the voter's left index finger before the actual voting. Then the voter's signature or thumb is taken. Before voting, the polling officer (Polling Officer) checks whether the voter's left index finger is inked or not, the statement added.
