Section 144 re-imposed in Mumbai amidst rising Covid-19 cases

Mumbai, Sep 17 (UNI) Amidst recent spurt in Covid-19 cases in the megapolis, the city police on Thursday re-imposed restrictions on movement and gathering in the city under section 144 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) from September 18 midnight.
"... Mumbai city continues to be threatened with the spread of Covid-19, it is considered expedient to issue prohibitory order for restricting any presence or movement of one or more persons in public places or gathering of any sort anywhere, including religious places..." the order stated.
The order has been issued as per guidelines of state government released on August 31, regarding easing of restrictions and phase-wise opening of lockdown, and no new restrictions have been imposed by Mumbai Police, an official said.

Palghar, Oct 24 (UNI) A court at Dahanu on Saturday sent 38 more persons into judicial custody who have been arrested by the State CID, for their alleged role in the case of lynching of two sadhus at Gadchinchale village of the district in April this year
A total 128 accused, including two juveniles, are in judicial custody and remand home.

He has been undergoing treatment for the last few days due to health ailments. He was close to senior leader Sharad Pawar. His demise marked the loss of a well-known politician in the state. He was survived by daughters.
