Srinagar, Jan 28 (UNI) Train services have been suspended once again in the Kashmir valley on Sunday for security reasons, where separatists have called for a general strike against the killing of two youths and injuries to nine others after Army personnel resorted to firing to disperse demonstrators in Shopian on Saturday.
Army said that fire was opened by troops after they came under heavy stone pelting in which a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and seven other soldiers were injured while government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident and police has registered a case.
We have suspended all train runs for security reasons in the Kashmir valley, a senior railway official told UNI this morning.
He said a fresh advisory was received from police last night to suspend the train service in the valley for security reasons. We are acting on the advice of police and local administration, he said adding that train services were resumed on Saturday after remaining suspended on Friday for similar reasons.
He said therefore no train will chug on Badgam-Srinagar to Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir and Banihal in Jammu region. This was the seventh time, train service remained suspended in south Kashmir during this month.
Similarly, no train will run on Srinagar-Badgam to Baramulla in north Kashmir, he said adding this was the second time train service in north Kashmir was suspended in January this year.
Train service in the Kashmir valley has become very popular which is being considered very cheap, safe and fast against other mode of transport service available to people.
Last year train service was fully or partially suspended for more than 50 times in the valley for security reasons.
