Train service resumes in Kashmir after 4 days

Srinagar, Apr 5 (UNI) Train service resumed on Thursday after remaining suspended for security reasons for four days in the Kashmir valley, where separatists had called two day strike from Monday followed by “Shopian Chalo” to express solidarity with the families of those killed in Sunday violence.
Four civilians were killed in south Kashmir and another in Ganderbal in central valley, and over 40 others were injured in security force action on demonstrators who took to streets after the killing of 13 militants, including top commanders in three different encounters on Sunday.
Three soldiers were also martyred and several others wounded in the encounters in south Kashmir.
"Train service resumed after remaining suspended for security reasons in the Kashmir valley since Monday,' a senior railway official told UNI this morning.
He said all trains between Srinagar to Banihal in Jammu region passing through south Kashmir will chug as per schedule.
First train has left Badgam for Banihal via Srinagar and south Kashmir this morning, the official said.
He said, trains will also run on Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla track in north Kashmir after remaining suspended for three days for security reason.
"A fresh advisory was received last night to resume the train service. We are acting on the advice of police," the official said.
The decision to suspend all train runs was taken in the interest of safety of passengers and railway property.
Railways suffered major damage in the past during demonstrations in the valley, where last year the service remained suspended for more than 50 times, partially or fully due to strike and demonstrations.
