Tiruchirapalli, Dec 7 (UNI) Ten pilgrims, including two children, were killed and five others seriously injured when a passenger van, in which they were travelling, rammed into a lorry fitted with borewell rig at Thuvarangkurichi on the Tiruchirpalli-Madurai national highway late on Wednesday night.
Police said the accident occurred when occupants of the van were proceeding to Tirupati hills from Nagercoil in Kanyakumari.
The van rammed into the rear side of the lorry, when its driver turned the vehicle towards right side.
The van was completely mangled due to the impact of the collision.
Police rushed to the site and rescued the injured and admitted them to the Government Medical College Hospital, here.
Inspector General of Police (Central Zone) V Varadharaju visited the spot and held an inquiry.
