Swami Agnivesh beaten up by BJP workers in Pakur

Pakur, Jul 17 (UNI) Eminent social workers and former Rajya Sabha MP Swami Agnivesh was today badly beaten by the workers and supporters of the Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha and Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarathi Parishad outside a city hotel here.
Swami Agnivesh was the chief guest in a function which was being organised by Akhil Bhartiya Aadim Janjati Vikas Samiti at Littipara of this district. As soon as he stepped out of the hotel and went in to
board his car he was attacked by the workers of the BJYM, BJP and the ABVP who were protesting outside the hotel. The attackers also indulged in slogan shouting against Swami Agnivesh.
Somehow the organisers of the event managed to rescue him from the attackers and took him inside the hotel but by that time his clothes had also been torn. Half an hour later SDPO alongwith other policemen reached on the spot and later took the workers of the BJYM and ABVP into custody.
Another team of judicial magistrate and Sadar BDO coupled with doctors and other staff also reached at the spot and treated Swami Agnivesh.
Later talking to the press, Swami Agnivesh described the attack on him as a conspiracy by the government and the administration. He said, despite decades of agitation he had been never subjected to such type of treatment.
He said that the DGP, chief secretary, DC and SP of Pakur were also informed about the incident but on one came to inquire into his well being.
Swamiji said that despite the workers of BJYM and ABVP protesting for so long outside the hotel no police was deployed and accused the state government of conducting the attack on him as part of a
conspiracy.
