Srinagar, Nov 17 (UNI) A Sub-Inspector (SI) of Jammu and Kashmir police and an Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind militant were killed in a brief encounter while an ultra was caught alive in Srinagar outskirts on Friday afternoon.
A Special Police Officer (SPO) was also injured in the encounter.
Official sources said a group of three militants, travelling in a car, was intercepted at Zakoora crossing on Srinagar-Sonmarg road this afternoon.
However, the militants opened indiscriminate firing on the naka party resulting in injuries to two police personnel. The injured were rushed to S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) where SI Imran Ahmad Tak succumbed. One of the militants, travelling in the car, was overpowered and arrested.
Meanwhile, they said two others militants, one of whom was critically injured, managed to escape from the spot. “The militant later succumbed to his injuries,” they added.
The militant has been identified as Mugees Ahmad Mir, a resident of Parimpora, and belongs to Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind led by Zakir Musa, they added.
This was the second time a militant was captured alive during encounter. On November 15, three militants, one in injured condition, were arrested during encounter by security forces in south Kashmir district of Kulgam, where a soldier and a militant were killed on Monday evening. Search operation in Kulgam woods was going on.
