Srinagar, Jan 25 (UNI) Train service has been suspended on Thursday for security reasons in south Kashmir, where two Hizbul Mujahideen militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Shopian on Wednesday.
A youth was also killed and two women injured in alleged security force firing during demonstrations near the encounter site.
'We have suspended all train runs in south Kashmir for security reasons today,' a senior railway official old UNI.
However, he said, all trains will chug in north Kashmir as per schedule.
He said an advisory was received last night from police to suspend all train runs in south Kashmir on Thursday.
Therefore, he said, no train will run on Badgam-Srinagar to Anantnag, Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.
Trains will chug on Srinagar-Badgam route to Baramulla in north Kashmir as per schedule, he said.
'We are acting on the advice of state administration and police,' he said, adding rail authorities have no role in it.
Train service in the Kashmir valley has become very popular which is being considered very cheap, safe and fast against other mode of transport service available to people.
Last year train service was fully or partially suspended for more than 50 times in the Valley for security reasons.
