Rail service resumes after remaining suspended for two days

Rail service resumes after remaining suspended for two days

Srinagar, Nov 20 (UNI) Train service resumed on Monday after remaining suspended for two days due to security reasons in the Kashmir valley, where separatists called for a general strike against the killing of militants and Cordoned and Search Operation (CASO).
"We have resumed train service in the Kashmir valley today," a senior railway official told UNI.
He said that the service was suspended on Saturday and Sunday following directions from the administration and police for security reasons.
"We have received a fresh advisory from the police on Sunday night, directing to resume train service," the official said, adding, the train will chug on Srinagar-Badgam in central Kashmir to Baramulla in north.
Similarly all trains will run from Badgam-Srinagar to Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.
Railway authorities suspended service on Saturday following death of a militant and a Sub Inspector in a brief encounter at Zakoora area of the outskirts on Friday evening.
Later, both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), spearheading the agitation, demanding right to self determination, had called for a general strike on Sunday in the valley, where six Lashkher-e-Toiba (LeT) militants, including top commanders and nephew of 2008 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi were killed in an encounter with security forces at Hajin in Bandipora during CASO on Saturday.
