Kolkata, May 16 (UNI) Over 11 per cent voters cast ballots in first two hours in Panchayat repolling to 573 booths, which began at 7 AM in West Bengal's 19 districts, official sources said today.
The repoll was necessitated following largescale violence on May 14 single phase panchayat election in 20 districts of the state in which some 26 people have been killed so far during polling day and post-poll violence. There was no repoll only in former Maoist bastion Jhargram district.
Barring reports of booth jamming in some places and ransacking of a polling station at Ratua, Malda, by and large the re-poling in first two hours passed off peacefully, the state election office here said.
Altogether an unprecedented 573 booths in 19 districts were today going to repolling. Of these maximum 73 booths are in North Dinajpur and the lowest number of three booth in West Burdwan. Voters could not cast ballot in repoll at Ratua No 1 block of Bakra of SPL Primary school where miscreants looted voting materials and drove away the polling officials before the armed police arrival.
