ISRO achieves perfect launch of PSLV-C40 with Cartosat-2, 30 others

Sriharikota, Jan 12 (UNI) In a text book launch, Indian Space Research Institute (ISRO) began its 2018 voyage in great style successfully launching 31 satellites, including Cartosat-2 series spacecraft after a flawless lift off of 42nd flight of workhorse PSLV-C40 from Satish Dhawan Space Center here on Friday.
Four stage PSLV-C40 blasted off majestically and pierced through the heavily clouded skies at 0929 hrs. The successful launch comes as a relief to the space agency after its previous mission PSLV-C39 in August 2017 had failed to launch Navigation satellite IRNSS-1H due to a heatshield malfunction.
Cartosat-2. weighing 710 kg, the spacecraft for earth observation, was put into its intended orbit at 1040 seconds after the launch.
Little later the other nano satellites were ejected into their desired orbits and this was followed the micro satellites.
The launch of Cartosat-2 marked a great milestone in the space programme of India as this is the 100th ISRO built satellite taking to the skies.
